Who We Are

At Hikes of Georgia, we believe nature is for everyone. Founded by Ranger Darling, H.O.G. blends fungi education, guided outdoor learning, community science, and ecological storytelling to help people better understand Georgia’s living landscapes.

Today, our work focuses on workshops, library talks, youth nature programs, partner-led events, fungi education, and public data tools like Georgia Fungi Find. Whether we are teaching mushroom ecology, leading a private group experience, or building dashboards from community science data, our goal remains the same: helping people build a deeper, safer, and more meaningful relationship with nature.

🍄 Fungi & Foraging Workshops

Mushroom education, safety, ecology, and seasonal awareness

Our fungi programs teach participants how to observe, document, and understand mushrooms safely while learning their ecological roles in Georgia’s forests.

🌎 Georgia Fungi Find & Data

Community science turned into public ecological insight

Through Georgia Fungi Find, we transform iNaturalist observations into interactive dashboards that reveal seasonal fungi trends, county hotspots, and species patterns across Georgia.

“It was great! We were very lucky with the weather, got some good steps in without being strenuous and learned a lot about fungi. I was surprised by the variety of what we found. I would love to do it again, and will keep an eye out for you encroaching on other nature centers.” – Ava B.
